Barnsley - Improving the physical and natural environment in Monk Bretton
Project: Friends of Monk Bretton Park
Amount Awarded: £5,236.00
Project date: June 2011 - September 2012
About
The project aims to improve the physical and natural environment in Monk Bretton Park for the benefit of the residents of the area. The group undertakes a number of maintenance activities including pruning and cutting hedges, and have arranged for trees and a crocuses walk to be planted to improve the visual environment in the park.
The group has also taken responsibility for organising and promoting events in the park such as Brass on the Grass. This has been funded via the Fair Share Trust award on the basis that the group looks towards being in a position to run this event in future with the support of sponsorship and donations. This event brought together local businesses, community groups and churches to enjoy a community event which attracted over 350 people.
The event fostered community spirit and enabled people to see the improvements that have taken place in the park, thereby encouraging local people to make more use of this green space with the resultants impacts on health & wellbeing and community pride in Monk Bretton and its residents.
