About
The Community Development Worker employed through the Seaton Valley Partnership has been working with Astley High Community Education Department to support the refurbishment of its swimming pool. The aim of the project is to increase its usage by the local community and look at improving the sporting facilities to encourage more community use. A community organisation has been set up to manage the project. Investigations are being made in order to transfer the lease to the new organisation from the Local Authority.
The ownership of a reasonable length of tenure being granted to the applicant body is an essential requirement of most funders. The project began with the refurbishment of the pool area but the long term aim will now include the re-development of sports hall and gym suite with the aim of having a fully refurbished leisure facility accessible to the community within Seaton Valley. The group have been supported to identify their aims and objectives and are almost ready to register as a charitable company. The project is supported by the acting head teacher and school governors. Initial funding has been identified that includes the SITA Trust and Sport England (Inspired Facilities).
A meeting was also set up with Blyth Valley Arts and Leisure, Nathan Rogerson Leisure Development and Inclusion Manager. The aim of the meeting was to investigate working in partnership with BVAL to see if they could offer support and involvement in the project.
