The aim of the project was to improve safety in the home and reduce the vulnerability of residents to crime and fire, targeting the most vulnerable 200 households in the Fair Share Trust neighbourhood. This has been achieved by improving household safety and raising local awareness in the most vulnerable areas.
The project was due to end on 31 July 2007. An end of grant form was received which demonstrated that 219 household had been targeted at a total cost of only £23,674. Approximately 6,000 security products were installed in the first 12 months of the project and local awareness was raised, for example, by stencils applied to pavements warning of the danger of leaving doors and windows unlocked. Community Foundation for Greater Manchester asked the Community Safety team to provide evidence of the success of the project; burglaries reduced by 42% when compared with the same period in the previous year. The Community Safety team asked to utilise the remaining grant by targeting an additional 331 homes and this was agreed by the Community Foundation for Greater Manchester.
