Speaking at the conference, Dame Stephanie said: “I want to acknowledge the outstanding work of the Community Foundation Network, and thank your leaders for having the vision (incorporated now into the Manifesto for Community Philanthropy) to drive such breakthrough ideas.” She went on to add that her own thinking had been much influenced by the manifesto.
The conference was also addressed by Minister for the Third Sector, Angela Smith and CFN Honorary President, Baroness Usha Prashar, as well as CFN Chair and philanthropist, Matthew Bowcock.
Welcoming delegates, Bowcock said: “With public expenditure under even more intense pressure, never has the role of community philanthropy been more important to support local communities and inspire social entrepreneurship.”
