Posted on Fri 07 October 2011

Are you constantly working hard to help build your community's future?

Are you looking for some more inspiration, ideas and help on how to do this?

If so you're in luck!

At the request of the Community Foundation Network, Forever Manchester is hosting a 2 day workshop delivered by Cormac Russell of Nurture Development UK where you can learn all about Asset Based Community Development, which is taking the UK by storm!

Dare to Dream - You can't know what you need until you know what you have.

The Asset-Based Community Development Institute (ABCD) is at the centre of a large and growing movement that considers local assets as the primary building blocks of sustainable community development.

The scheme has been set up to build on the skills of local residents and the supportive functions of local institutions. Asset-based community development draws upon existing community strengths to build stronger, more sustainable communities for the future.

Forever Manchester is working closely with Nurture Development, who are world leaders in strengths-based development, to give you the chance to learn some valuable skills to take back to your community.

Who should attend?

Those who will benefit from the workshop include: community leaders, public, private and third sector organisations, residents and anyone involved in building communities.

The two day workshop is available to those wishing to learn more about ABCD and will be delivered by Cormac Russell, who is Managing Director of Nurture Development and a faculty member of the ABCD Institute at Northwestern University, Chicago. He has trained communities, agencies, NGOs and Governments in ABCD and other strengths based approaches in Kenya, Southern Sudan, South Africa, the UK, Ireland, Canada and Australia.

The workshop will be Co-facilitated by Jim Diers, who has recently been appointed to the Expert Reference Group on Community Organising and Communities First by Nick Hurd MP, Minister for Civil Society in the UK.

The workshop will take place on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th November 2011 at the Victoria & Albert Hotel in Manchester.

The cost of the two day workshop is £150 per person, which includes refreshments and lunch. If you book 5 or more places at once you will receive a 10% discount.
