Lesson learned in brief: The importance of supporting groups even when their project has come to an end.
About
One of the groups in Hyndburn has recently come to the end of their Fair Share grant. A small allocation of funding was awarded to allow them to conduct their own evaluation of their work as part of the grant.
Unfortunately the first draft of the evaluation was a little lacking in substance. Some content including lessons learned, community quotes of their work, volunteer stories and sustainability of the social capital were not covered.
As local agent, we had no concerns about the organisation and they have actually secured a large Big Lottery Reaching Communities grant to continue their Fair Share work- it was purely a case of them having more confidence in selling their excellent work.
We provided some constructive feedback and the final draft of the evaluation is much improved.
The lesson learned is that our role must be to support groups even when their project has come to an end. There are other funded projects in the ward that have a small allocation of funding for an evaluation. We will ensure that we offer more ongoing support with these- especially as they will be taking place at the same time as our own overall evaluation of Fair Share Trust.
