Local residents in Great Bridge collaborating to improve their neighbourhood

Residents and community groups in Great Bridge attended a networking event aimed at improving the voluntary infrastructure and the local environment.
Sandwell Council of Voluntary Organisations have been commissioned by Fair Share Trust Great Bridge to develop partnership working and create community networks, which enables local groups to meet, share good practice and improve one-to-one working relationships.
As a result, SCVO has led on a series of networking events in the Great Bridge Area. The event held on 26th November 2011provided an opportunity for local groups to:
- showcase their activities
- share plans for the future
- discuss the consultation on a local environment project Haines Branch Walk and hear about proposals for developing an independent constituted group to be set up to lead on the future development of the site.
- discuss working in partnership with local agencies to tackle the local issues and challenges and drive community action.
- Discuss the sustainability of existing community action and options for funding, including Localgiving.com
In addition, groups were given the opportunity apply for funding from the local Community Chest developed in collaboration with Fair Share Trust, SCVO and Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. Grassroots’ groups are eligible to apply for a maximum of £1000 from the Community chest for isolated activities that support existing projects.
