Case Study: Kimberworth Park Working Together Awarded: £81,575
Rotherham’s Kimberworth Park community has benefited from Fair Share Trust grants to improve its condition. A local panel has devised priorities for the community that includes increasing accessibility to services, creating employment opportunities and enhancing the health and wellbeing of its residents.
Part of this strategy is the Chislett Community Gym, which has moved from strength to strength since opening in 2009. The number of users has increased substantially and opening hours have been extended to accommodate demand. Members who have undertaken the Gym Instructor Training are now paying back their training time as volunteers in the facility, some even furthering their qualifications to focus on activities for young people.
All of those involved in running the Gym are working hard to ensure its success. The Steering Group comprised of representatives from local statutory agencies continues to meet on a regular basis and is planning to bring user representatives on board.
The benefits of the Chislett Community Gym go beyond the physical health of its users. Volunteer participation, skills training and community engagement all contribute to improve the general wellbeing of Kimberworth Park residents.
