Improving family life in Knowsley

Case Study: Home-Start Knowsley Awarded £31,350

A Knowsley family was referred to the Home-Start project in 2008, when the mother felt isolated from the community and was concerned with her child’s health and wellbeing.

Funded by the Fair Share Trust, Home-Start provides support to local families with young children who are facing difficulty. Due to a lack of social skills and confidence, although the mother was keen to get involved in her child’s development, she needed constant encouragement.

The mother attended the group for some time and decided to join the Health & Wellbeing Programme, in which her son was provided with a nursery placement that enabled her to concentrate more on her own health and wellbeing.  She was so impressed by the results that she also signed on for a parenting course, where she learned about positive ways of disciplining and structured approaches to parenting.

To project managers, this mother has come a long way from the shy, reserved person initially referred to Home-Start. Confidence and socialisation have changed a situation of exclusion into a positive parenting experience.
